Stoessel - Gertler & Co Berlin

I am looking at buying a Stoessel - Gertler & Co piano but I cannot find much information on this maker has anyone heard of then and do you know any history please?

They were established in 1880, and still in business in 1911, but probably disappeared after the 1914 war. Certainly, they were not around in 1928. That is more information than can be found on most of the lesser makes! Any other information depends on clues inside the piano, see pianogen.org

Does it make sense buying a lesser known make like this one, or would it make sense going for somthing better known like a John Broadwood. I want somthing that is antique and is sutible for a beginer to practice on.

The better the antique, the worse the piano usually, pianos don't improve with age. It is impossible to generalise, get a tuner's report before parting with the cash. Condition is often more to the point than make. People offer us antique pianos for nothing, just to save them being scrapped or burnt.
