Neumeyer

Post by Shelly »

I purchased a Neumeyer piano and can't find out anything about it. The serial # is 16576. Is it an antique?? Does it have significant value? I just had it tuned and the tuner said he had never seen anything like it, he wasn't even sure he would be able to tune it. It is an upright with burled oak (no veneer) and a beautiful piece.

When you say he'd never seen anything like it, in what way? Was it a Quadruplex? (Triple Overstringing.) There seem to have been 4 firms called Neumeyer, I have seen pianos and information around 1882-1920, and I could tell you more from photos, via the PianoGen website.

I can't remember seeing Niemeyer anywhere, but if it exists, why should there be a connection with a different name?

Neumeyer/Niemeyer

Post by Carine »

well, yes indeed, after looking it up...
1) Gebr. Neumeyer, which is German, produced in Berlin
2) Niemeyer, which is Chinese

while for Niemeyer, speaking about mecanique they refer to German mecanique
both have the same rating, see following site:
http://www.pianos.co.uk/info/ratings.php3

sorry, i thought it was the same case as:
Petrof and Petrov
I have been told that this is the same manufacturer.

This is a more informative but again the problem with reviews that try to cover a subject as complex as pianos they will always be controversial to some and spot on to others

I think Nimeyer is probably just another example of our eastern friends producing pianos with german-sounding names. Press www below, press the "Aliases" button, then see the korean examples. Of course, there is always this odd habit of translating names, just as the French call London "Londres", and we do similar things.
