Baldwin Baby Grand
Hi, I am having trouble understanding the true age of my Piano. It is an M 157173, which if I understand the blue book is 1962----Yet the interior is gilt metal and has raised letters that say Grand Prix 1900 Grand Prize St. Louis 1904. I understand that they were given as prizes at the exposition. I would appreciate any information as to the true age. By the way it is ebonized and in great shape! Thanks so much,
Nikka

It wasn't that the pianos that were given away as prizes, the piano makers received prizes. There are three traps to avoid here: One is relying purely on a number for a date, another is that if the number is preceded by M it may not be the right number, the other trap is thinking that the date of the medal is the date of the piano.
