Is installing a Korg Silence Piano System a good idea?
Post by mreddington »
I'm looking around for an upright piano and have been concentrating on those with the Yamaha Silent system since I read that it is better to have the silent system built in at the factory. I came across the Korg system as one that can be installed later and was wondering if this would be a possible solution since it would increase my scope in choosing a piano. I haven't been able to find any reviews on the internet and wondered if anyone has had experience with this.

Don’t know the Korg system only know the Technics and the Gabor system Out of the two the Gabor system is better and cheaper
The only down side on a retro fitted one are the prolongs they can get noisey after a few years but the big advantage, when you upgrade your piano, you can move the system to your new piano. Takes about a day to set one up in a large upright

Thanks, Barrie. I'll be going to a dealer tomorrow and will discuss this with him. He deals with the Yamaha or Korg systems. My preference would be one fitted at the factory and I'll be looking at various Yamaha silent models, especially the U1. I don't much like the sound of the equivalent Schimmel and the other maker who uses the Yamaha system is Grotrian-Steinweg, which has a beautiful sound but is atrociously expensive. If I find a Yamaha I like I'll go for it, but it's good to know that I could retro fit a silent system into something else if I prefer it. The dealer I will visit is very reputable and my teacher has recommended many people to him, so I think I can trust his advice.
Incidentally, I have been lurking for a few weeks now and find the advice on your site very helpful. Thanks for providing this forum.

Well, I took the plunge and bought a Yamaha U1 Silent. Lovely sound and very responsive. Let's hope it will sound as good when it's in my flat! Delivery next week.
