Wendl and Lung or Yamaha U3 Upright Pianos

Post by Spaceman »

I am about to buy my first piano. I woulf like as much information as possible about the 2 pianos I have mentioned. Has anybody tried these pianos, can you give me your views on there performance. Which would be the best to buy and why. Is a new Wendl and Lung a good piano for the money or would it be better to buy a 20 year old Yamaha U3 at a higher price.

Thank you

From what I have read the newer U3 the better serial number >4 million.
If you search on this forum there are various threads about U3s.

There are a few pages of W&L info on here too. Search for "wendl & lung".

The latest W&L models address the build quality issues of the earlier pianos, but all versions represent good value.

A very good example of a U3 is a better bet, but a new W&L can trounce a poor U3, so check for that U3 serial number being above 4 million. The W&L122 is 10cm shorter than the U3, so expect less meaty bass from it.
