David Witton Piano

Post by BilboBaggins »

I have recently inherited a David Witton Upright Piano, please could anyone give me any information of the history of the piano?
I am not after selling it, but would like to restore it, and don't want to be ripped off if its not worth it. :?

According to later pianos, they were established in 1838, but we have no record of David Witton until 1860, and in 1865, the firm became known as Witton & Witton. No original archive material is available, so we can only guess that your piano might be pre-1866. It would be interesting to have photos for our files, could you email me some? As for its present condition, and the question of restoration, you need a tuner on the spot. I can help if you are in East Anglia. See also the Datemarks, Archives & Valuation links at pianogen.org
