Harringtons of London
Hi, My wife is being given a piano, from her parents, in which she used to be taught on many years ago. It has the name 'Harringtons of London' on the front of it and they bought it second hand about 25+ years ago. It is still in great condition although needs re-tuning as it hasn't been done in a while. I tried to search on the piano name on the web but with no luck. Has anyone ever heard of this make? We will be looking to get it insured and was wondering how such a piano can be valued. Are there any other markings I should look out for? Thanks in advance. P.S. They bought the piano for 800 pounds all those years ago if that makes any difference.

It's not a name that I recognise, and if you look at the Piano Names link on pianogen.org you'll see that many are meaningless. The vast majority are not on the net. Valuation starts with getting your tuner to check it over.

I've booked a tuner to come out next week and would you believe he is the son of the guy that owned the piano shop that sold us the piano 25 odd years ago (small world). He actually remembers the type of piano, so I should get a bit of history on the piano next week, so will keep you posted. Thanks.

Hi,
Unfortunately I got caught up in work and didn't really get a chance to talk to the Piano guy.
He however confirmed the piano was made around the 1930's and that it was bought from his shop(Griffin's pianos) by my parents-in-law about 25 years ago as a second hand for £800.
Griffin's piano store is in Co.Cork Ireland and was established 30+ years ago.
Address is below if interested in getting further info...

So we now have a nicely tuned 75 year old piano in great condition in our living room now!
Bye.
