Challen Demi-Grand

Post by lynn johnston »

We have acquired this interesting piano and would like to know more about it if possible, however can find no references to such a piano on the net!
Number stamped on casing is 67349 and 'patent pending' labels are prominently displayed.
Next stop is search of those patent references!

All I can tell you is that if that is the serial number, it suggests 1940. I have never come across a "Demi-Grand", but around that time, there were many very small grands made, often double overstrung - three sets of strings crossing at different angles. This will almost certainly be a mass-produced instrument, made in hundreds or thousands, but the majority of pianos are not listed on the net, and no original archive material has ever surfaced about Challen pianos.
