Yes, the dealers (not that they would describe themselves as such) are remarkably reticent on this matter. Not so in the USA, where the list prices are given as:

Model (290) Imperial Grand PRICE LIST:

290 9'6"
EBONY HIGH GLOSS $179,550

290 9'6"
White, WalNUT, ChERRY, MahOGANY,PomELE, BubINGA, WENGE HIGH POLISH, SatIN, OR OPEN PORE $198,800

290 9'6"
PyrAMID, MahOGANY, Amboyna, Rio ROsEwOOd, BurlED WALNUT, YEW, Macassar HIGH POLISH, SatIN, OR OPEN PORE $205,975

290 9'6"
JOHANN STRAUSS EBP $195,125

290 9'6"
FRANZ SCHUBERT EBP $195,125

290 9'6"
VIENNA ANY FINISH $241,575

290 9'6"
SENATOR ANY FINISH $199,675

290 9'6"
CHOPIN ANY FINISH (AFRICAN POMELE) $238,125

290 9'6"
CLASSIC RIO ROSEWOOD & YACHT ANY FINISH $209,875

290 9'6" ARTISAN $264,450

So at around 200k USD that relates to say, 120k GBP? Being cynical my guess is that in the UK we (OK, you) would have to pay rather more.

Thanks chaps, not buying one, just interested to know how much an Imperial costs now, black finish, specifically from any UK dealer.

Have Bösendorfer not gone into receivership?

I'll find out the last list price tomorrow.

The Imperial is officially £87,500

but after discount, £70,000

I couldn't resist comparing it to the price of a Steinway D which is now £92,000 and due for an imminent price increase.

Hmm, cheaper than I thought. Going off at a slight tangent, whilst Googling for the Imperial I came across one which had been modified (pedal reach, I suppose) for the rather diminutive boy who played in the final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition about 18 months ago. You know, the one where the altogether more fetching Nicola Benedetti won. Anyway, he was loaned it for a year before the comp to practice, and it was offered for sale. Look, there's nothing wrong with trivia and idle thoughts of Miss B.

Bosendorfer Imperial Black gloss for sale

Post by hjkrebs »

I have had this wonderful instrument from new. It is only 3 years and it is as new.
I will agree on a sensible price if you are interested.

I think you will find that Bosendorfers have just been taken over by Yamaha . Not sure if thats good or bad but at least they have't gone bust.
