Weber

You will know if it is a Berlin Weber, it will say it on the front. Very little is known or published about them, but if you contact me, I can provide a report based on what I can deduce from photos. See

E Muller Berlin Piano

Post by steven »

Hello:

I found your postings online while researching a piano that was recently given to my family. The serial number shows No. 2199 and I can't seem to find anything about it. I am going to email the pictures of it in a separate message. The Weber Berlin sounds just like the piano I must acquired. Let me know if you have any additional information. There are 2 places where lanterns must have been attatched to play at night. I would like to find some and put them back on the piano. It is an amazing piano.

Weber? or Muller?

Post by Bill Kibby »

If it is a Muller piano, why are you posting it as a Weber? You will have a better chance of response if you post it on its own name, with a proper description, and all the wording that is on the piano.

Steven's E Muller Berlin Piano

Post by steven »

Sorry about the misnaming. The piano reads E Muller, Berlin
but seems to have the the same or very similar 6 six coins as mentioned above on the Weber Berlin. The piano was purchased in the early 90's at an antique dealer in Port Arthur, Texas, and then given to me just today due to a family moving out of the area. They wanted the piano to go to someone who would appeciate the value. I'd like to add information on it on my composing website and am not interested in seling or valuing it, but providing historical information about it. I'm especially interested in finding a primary source on the "serial number" if accurate, it is No. 2199

Steven's E Muller Berlin Piano

Post by steven »

I have found a promising lead of a businesses established under E. Muller in 1836 which reads as follows.

Muller, (Establissements E. Muller) 66 rue de Bondy (X)
Fournit. pour Pianos, Orgues, Harmoniums. - Tel Nord 42-63,
Met Republique. (Usine 204, rue St.Maur. - Tel Nord 30-38, Net Belleville.) Fond. en 1836.
Voyez l'annonce page 2.

This is from the Musique-Adresses book and is easily found online.

This appears to be the correct business but my E. Muller Piano says Berlin on the front. Belleville in the above mentioned excerpt is just outside of Paris France. (or perhaps there is another Belleville in Germany? doubtful.

I'm wondering if I can track down records of business dealings of this establishment and hopefully check my serial number against their records. Again, I'm not seeking to find the value, but the story behind this special piano.

Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.

Muller

There were many musical firms named Muller, and several made pianos, there is no reason to assume that they are connected. We have a 1928 Musique Adresses Universel here, I checked it when you asked. Ernst Muller was at Berlin, Dresden & Elberfield, but it wasn't a piano firm.
