I have a small 85 key Burling & Burling upright, serial # 14471. I can find a few references to the company but no information on #s/age. It appears to be an all-wood construction with no iron plate at all and rounded sharps. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

George & Edward Burling were around from the 1860s, and moved from Goswell Road to Hampstead Road in the late 70s. No dates of serial numbers are published. They later became Burling & Mansfield. 85 notes is the usual arrangement in old pianos. Rounded sharps and wooden frames (usually an iron hitchplate in the bass section) were common in London pianos around the 1870s. Have a look at pianogen.org
