Age of Second Hand Pianos

Yamaha piano deteriorate just the same as other midrange quality pianos placed in the same environment and have the same workload. However, there are other factors with older Yamaha pianos in particular pre 1975 Yamaha did not take the moisture content of the timber down to an expectable level for the European - US market so pianos pre 1975 can and do have problems with soundboards and tuning pins some more than others

Some of the pre 1975 pianos have been restored and are fine also, some dealers give 2 3 years guarantee to their second-hand Yamahas.

If they are imported pianos where they have spent a number of years in Japan's humid climate and partially restored in the UK, some of these pianos have been known also to have problems as Barrie has mentioned above.

If you really like one but would like some re-assurance as to whether its free from damage, contact a local qualified tuner who should be able to examine a piano for you.
