Dietrich + W&L 161

Post by Dietrich »

My Wendl & Lung 161 will come by Saturday 12. I compared it with the 178. The bass of the 178 is a bit more profound, but I also feared that the 178 would produce more decibels thatn the 161, and my house members may not appreciate this.

I also compared the 161 with the Kawai (178), Petrof (178) and Yamaha (178). They all have pros and cons. I like the sound of the W&L, especially when they intonate the piano good (meaning warm), so as an amateur I decided to go for this one. Started off by renting (Pianovleugels in Eindhoven; very nice and good service untill now), and will take one with a Silent system, when they become available. Keep you posted. Thank you JohnEB for your feedback! Dietrich

I tried all the 3 pianos you mentioned and found the W&L 161 to have a better tone (mellower, more bass) and nice touch (more firm) than all of them. I also preferred the 161 to the 178, mainly due to the action. The 161 is certainly loud enough for my room which is about 5m * 7m but with very high ceiling.

Good luck with your new piano - I'm sure you will enjoy it. It took my piano until now to really settle down (well I assume it has). It just got its 2nd tuning and sounds really magnificent now.
