Francois Berden & Cie

Post by edwin »

I have recently purchased this Francois Berden & Cie piano. These are all the identification symbols I can find on it. #950 / 3627 No 306 F-Coonen Exhibition Model Ebony and Gold. Could someone please assist me in identifying this piano, and the age, and history, or else please direct me to website. Thank you

You have already identified it...

BERDEN (Francois) & Co., Brussels, Belgium
1815 Established.
1840-1870 Serial number dates are published, suggesting that 3627 might be about 1846.
1851 Berden showed 3 cottage pianos at the Great Exhibition, catalogue number 174.
Circa 1890 Fcois. Berden piano #8,000 with 1204 on the action, which also has the names Offermans (Diricks), & J. Heylbroek Curdmens on the belly. I spent quite a time looking for the name Diricks, before realising that it is a place! Have a look at the Reports page at the link below.
