Can you identify my childhood piano?

When I was a child I grew up playing an upright piano that my mother had brought over with her from France (must have been the 1950's). It was a very unusual piano. On the panel above the pedals were two "handles" that you lifted slightly and then pulled toward you, and the whole panel would then be flush with the front edge of the keyboard. Then you could close the top of the piano in such a way that the whole piano then became "hidden" or disguised behind a "rectangular box furniture" for lack of a better description. I've never seen anything like it ever again.

Do any of you have any idea what kind of piano this was, ie. brand? date? origin?
