Does anyone know how to get some hammers for my John Broadwood and sons 1817 Square Piano?

What's the serial number? It isn't simply a matter of buying them, they would have to be made and fitted by a specialist. Alternatively, you would have to make them from scratch and fit them yourself. I can't see how there could be any half measure. Even an identical piano would not usually provide hammers that fit.

As bill has pointed out its not that simple even on a modern piano still in production. You could have them recovered but again there is skill involved in putting them back

I would contact Lucy Coad she is very good at restoring square pianos

I havent found the serial.

Anyone know where it is?
And how to open the mecanics?

I have another square grand and that one i could just slide open from the keys like a drawer.

I really dont know anything about it other than that i like it and that i want to fix it.

Can i post pictures here?

I have the hammers in fine condition but they lack the piece cloth that holds it to the "plank".

It looks like it is very easy to glue some other piece of fabric to it so it will hold again.

But now my big consern is to open the machanics without mounting away the strings.

I tuned the piano with the hammers that work and it sounds fantastic.

Nothing like I ever heard before.

So Im the the seventh heaven if someone can tell me how the open it to reveal the mechanics.

Its not fabric its velum and it has to be worked before fitting and fitted more accurately that it looks. As to removing the action Broadwoods had more variations on theme for removing action than most at the time

The action comes out in 2 sections first you need to remove the name plat that normally slides up but can be secured the key slip lock rail needs to be removed sometimes screwed sometimes just doweled it is very difficult without sitting in front of the piano as I said in an early post contact Lucy Coad

This 6-legged style of square piano is often described as "Regency", meaning 1810-1820, but in fact, they were made by various firms from at least 1804 to 1828, and you should find a number inside the top, between about 7,000 and 30,000, perhaps to the right of the tuning pins.

I tried to wash gentely to see if something came up on the board but no.

When its warm outside, im gonna take it out and demount it to get a better view.
