Yamaha U3 recon.3 bass strings sounding hard

Post by Trev »

I have a U3 with 3 bass strings in the 2nd.octave which are a hard tone and dont have the depth of the rest. My supplier has replaced the strings twice and revoiced but I still have the problem, also 2 notes in the octave above have a metalic sound but not quite a buzz. The piano came from a very Reputable dealer and seems to be in very good condition.No.2536674

Both sound like toning problems, deep and surface toning needed but with out seeing the piano it is difficult. It also could be something in the room making a sympathetic ring

The Dealer has gone the extra mile by changing the strings twice I would now ask the dealer to send out a different tuner or pay for some one new to the problem

U3 Bass string problems.

Post by Trev »

Thanks Barrie foryour prompt reply, the dealer has agreed to exchange and I am considering a U1, apart from size is there much difference. Would a new one be a lot better and how do you rate the UK Kemble and the Pmx which I beleive have the same build.
Thanks Trev.

Well yes a big difference in the Bass and overall power of the piano.

The P121 is quite different to the U1 much softer tone, as the soundboard and strings are different to the U1 the action is the same and of course the case is more softer to look at as well, but not many retailer stock the P121 there is one in the North west who stocks them.

Can’t comment on the PX not sat in front of one yet the thicker case should give you a bigger depth of the sound than the P121, but will it be £1000.00 better and is the U1 £1000.00 better than the P121, I would say no - the P121 takes a few more tunings than the U1 to settle down but when it is it’s a very nice piano.

Yamaha P121 versus U1 versus U3

Post by Trev »

Thanks Barrie, I will try and compare them, I need less volume than the U3 as my neighbours paintings keep falling off his wall.
