The Bentley name wasn't introduced until 1930. A growing number of websites offer apparently simple dating of pianos by numbers. These dates are usually based on books, which in turn quote from other books which are sometimes wrong or misleading. I don't think I have ever heard of one single instance where a serial number was immdeiately followed by a letter, and just because this is the only number you have found, it does not necessarily mean it is the serial number. is the C not a 0 if it is than it will be 1970 were you looking atflodizz wrote:I am dealing with my late father's estate - he has a Bentley Piano with a serial no of 12233C. According to the site this is circa mid 1920's - but the case, hammers and strings are no way as old as 1920's - is there a way of tracing whether this might have been refurbished , restrung and recased at a much later date. THis is not a question of value but documenting "service history".
Any information would be gratefully received

Those numbers were provided by Bentleys for their website on the UK Piano Page. However, that is no guarantee that they are correct as most manufactures don’t keep very good records
