I am currently working on a booklet about the Cadby firm, and putting together illustrations of any pianos I can find, but you are wrong about certain points. 1862 is not the date of the piano, nor is it when the firm was established, that was in 1839. In 1862, they received a medal at the London Exhibition. Cadby & Sons was later.
Would it be possible to include any photos of your piano in my file? And can you tell me the number of the piano and the full wording?

Cadby piano of jeannine

Sorry to be so late picking up your posting of 18 Oct 2004. As your piano scroll is the one used by the West Kensington Works it must be dated between 1875 and1885. If you would kindly let me know the serial number stamped into the top right corner of the wood frame above the piano wire adjusters and under "C CADBY" I can narrow down the date somewhat.
The representation of the two sides of the 1862 Exhibition medal was included in all versions of the Cadby scroll after that date.
Regarding the beginning of the Cadby piano making company, in his personal diaries Charles Cadby refers in his entry for 30 April 1838 to his Bedford Square workshop and for 27 July 1838 to launch of cabinet pianos and 18 November 1838 to a delivery of a piano from Bedford Square to a customer. Thus his business had started at least by that year. The company was closed down in 1885 following his death the previous year in accordance with the wishes expressed in his Will.
I would be most interested in the information and genealogy which you have and your reference to Margaret De Buck and we would be pleased to reciprocate with our own research. If you can reply through a private message to let me have your email address we can exchange information on the Cadby family.

I'm intested in this piano's history. My antique piano serial No : 1970, with attractive art-nouveau hand carved walnut panelling , antique floral embroidered cloth work on the front and ivory keys. Does anyone know about this piano's brand, or more history ? Who can tell me how many years ago they made this piano??
my email address: cindypiano88@yahoo.com.cn
thanks! cindy

No dates of Cadby's serial numbers are published, but there may be clues inside the piano. Could you please tell me all the words that are written on it?
