You may have better luck getting a second hand A frame not as nice looking as the steam roller casters but there is more of them about

Big fat piano castors

I am looking for a set of those big brass castors with brakes which you fit to grand pianos so they can be moved around without carving channels into an expensive wooden floor.

A new set will cost me around Ł500 including labour so I'm hoping I might be able to find a secondhand pair for less.

Any ideas?

The A frame's better for the legs as well, if you're pushing it far. Didn't see you in the London Marathon, did we...? :D

Thank you for the advice - everything points to an A-frame being the answer, but they're just so ugly... perhaps I must just bite the bullet on this one.
