6ft 1925 Chappell available

Post by David Pinnegar »

I have a friend who asked me if I'd like his parent's instrument, in Yorkshire I believe. I don't need it for myself but am trying to advise appropriately.

Am I right in thinking that the Chappel actions of this period have the jack spring sitting upon a piece of thread . . . and that after 80 years or so the thread breaks?

Are there any technicians in the Yorkshire region who might be able to rethread the action and what might be the cost?

My grandfather had a Chappell of about this period, a baby grand probably shorter than 6ft. There was a terrible change of tone at the break. Does anyone know the 6ft model and does it display the same problem?

Best wishes

Yorkshire is a big county. If the piano is near Skipton you could contact Yorkshire pianos.

If it is more west than Skipton it may be in Barrie Heaton's area.

All the Chappel grand pianos I have tuned have had roller actions. Small Grands do tend to have a terrible change of tone at the break partially old ones.
