thanks v much for that, i think alot of piano's i've seen have been badly out of tune, alot of the notes have been accompanied by some sort of weird noise. I'm glad i've been safe and havn't bought one yet but i really can't wait to get one

I been to view a few pianos now and i'm still not sure what sounds to look out for. Can anyone load (or link) up some reference notes i.e a piano in tune, out of tune, pins dropped, soundboard cracked etc this would be soooo helpful for me to determine condition, i'm really skint so i'm hunting down...

what are russian pianos like?

yep i think that must be it, because i've heard it on two pianos now, the other was a crane and sons which i could have got for free and it had a lovely embedded illustration on the cabinet.

any idea of the cost to replace one?

the sound it makes is a bit like a twang sound, i've viewed two pianos now that have made the same sound.

Hi, i'm new to piano's I've thinking of buying a chappell for £100, the cabinet is tatty. The action is good but i think it's in bad tune i.e. whan you press a key it makes a strange sound as if the string has a weird reverb, is this just badly out of tune? I havn't got loads of money but ...
