Re: Pohlmann and Sons upright
I've been doing a bit more reading around Pohlmann this evening (I have an interest in this topic anyway as I own one of the large Danemann grands which incorporates the Pohlmann scale design!). I found this blog post written by a tuner in Yorkshire which adds some fascinating additional detail on P...

Re: Pohlmann and Sons upright
Glad to help Joanna, it's always nice to know a bit about what you've got!
Danemanns were well made and amongst the best of British pianos.

Re: Pohlmann and Sons upright
In fact, if I'm right, that ties in nicely with the Danemann serial numbers from that period. 52366 would place it as mid 1930s if Danemann did make it, as I think we can assume they did.

Re: Pohlmann and Sons upright
Hello! I might be able to assist with your Pohlmann upright! From the casework and style of the piano, I'd date it to the 1930s, which was an interesting and relevant time in the history of Pohlmann. Pohlmann was an established maker based in Halifax, West Yorkshire. In 1934 the firm decided to clos...

Re: Winkelmann Braunschweig
Looks like a nice instrument! I've only ever played Winkelmann uprights which have been lovely. Interesting to know the Andy Stewart connection - I was friends with Andy's musical director, the late Mark Simson, who I'm sure must have played this Winkelmann many times!

Re: Danemann hs2
In case you're interested there is a Danemann HS2 for sale on eBay at the moment. It has lost its celeste rail but the pedal and mechanism are still there, but the Renner action is the giveaway. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=191769762803&globalID=EBAY-GB&alt=web There are ...

Re: Not a trader!
Thanks Barrie. I completely understand the position of your site and organisation. Rest assured I will not attempt to advertise my piano on this site again - either as a member of the public (which is the honest and correct answer) or as a 'member of the trade' (which would be dishonest as I am not).

Not a trader!
Hi folks, Just wanted to post a quick note that will make me feel better if nothing else - and may perhaps be read by any other interested parties on the site. I recently posted an advert under 'Pianos for sale by General Public' on this site but received notification yesterday that two complaints h...

Lindner Grand!
Hi folks, Thought this might be of interest to some of you as an oddity. I know that the word 'Lindner' is something of a dirty one but until now I'd never seen anything with their name on it, other than small uprights with dubious aluminium tubing frames and plastic actions. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/B...

Re: Richard Lipp & Sohn
Hi there! Congratulations on acquiring your Lipp! I've been a fan of this make for many years, but have never come across a 57" upright before. Must be fairly rare now, as probably very few of these very tall uprights were ever made. I know that many Lipps were sold to NZ and Australia when new...

Lipps are very highly regarded instruments. The quality of their design and construction are the equal of any of the most famous names in pianos. They have the potential to be excellent instruments once restored, whether grand or upright. Restoration needs to be done properly, and in a piano this ag...

Steinway restoration
Hi there, You could do a lot worse than to get in touch with Fergus Hoey of Alcyonis Pianos in North Norfolk. He has his own workshops and from my knowledge of him and his work, it's a real labour of love for him. He emphasises conservation and authenticity in his restorations and will not try to tu...

Bechstein Model Va
Hi there, I've recently purchased a gorgeous 6ft 7 Bechstein Grand, model Va, dated to 1904 approx. I'm struggling to find anything about this particular model of piano. The relatively commonly seen Model V seems to be an earlier incarnation of Bechstein's 6ft 7 grand, and has the "fish tail&qu...
