My Irmler - an update

It has been some time (like 4 years!) since I wrote saying I was buying an Irmler F164 Professional Grand. Well, I have not been disappointed at all. It was delivered in May 2004 and since then has been tuned regularly by Ken Forrest from Leeds. The first tunings were at 3 monthly intervals, then 4 ...

DVD to accompany the Seymour Hicks (Mastering Piano Techniqu

The DVD has been issued by Amadeus Press but the US web site will not accept orders from the UK.
Does anyone know a work around?
I have written to the UK end of Amadeus Press but do not hold out much hope

It's here!

My new Irmler F164 grand finally arrived last Wednesday. It's lovely. Well it is at the moment. I'm sure there will be occasions when my playing will be awful and naturally it will the the piano's fault. The only problems (so far)are: 1. The adjusting nut at the top of the brass rod which operates t...

Re: Irmler pianos

Barrie, thanks for the comments. Steinway have the Boston and also the Essex. I know the Boston is made by Kawai and I have read it is delivered straight to the importer? Bluthner have the Haessler and the Irmler. The Irmler range is "Professional" (made in Poland) and the "Studio&quo...

Duplex Scaling

this is the only definition I could find Richard Thanks for the info. Are there any drawings which would make me understand? My new pianio will not arrive until May and I am curious. I have seen the Aliquot strings on Bluthner grands but it is the double duplex I cannot really visualise Barry Duple...

Upright/Baby Grand

A "good upright" should have "better" basic tonal qualities than a baby grand. If the upright action is weighted correctly then it should be similar to a correctly setup grands'. On sound ouput the babies have to compromise because of their size. However an upright cannot project...

Double duplexing

Has anyone any idea what "double duplexing" means.
I assume it is to do with improving the clarity/sound of the treble notes but I cannot find any technical description. My new Irmler possibly has it but their literature (which is still in German) is no help
Thanks for any replies

Choosing my new baby grand piano

I was taught to play from 6 years old but stopped when I was 16! So now at 67 I have 50 years to catch up. The playing is coming on fine SO I have taken the plunge to replace my old trusty Bluthner upright. I want a grand because I am fed up of looking at the wall just behind the music and also beca...
