You might concider looking at a Sauter Grand. I believe they are the oldest family owned piano factory in Germany, but might be a little above your budget.

You could do a lot worse than trying one of the "Hidrau" stools that are distributed in the UK by Heckscher & co. They are a quality stool made in Spain.

If you have a word with Graham @ Heckschers he will usually give you a one on one polyester repair course FOC if you can drag yourself down to London! May cost if he has to travel to you though.

Re: Doing it Continental
Graham at Heckschers (trained by Konig in Germany) will usually do a basic polyester repair course one to one F.O.C. on the basis that you are an existing customer of theirs & will be buying your materials from them. For others there might be a small charge.

There is a relatively new book out that is a rival to "Reblitz" titled "Upright & Grand Piano Repair" by Carl-Johan Forss. Not a very imaginative title but worth a read. Heckschers stock it.

If, after reading the replies so far, you still want to go ahead and try and tune your own piano, then you could do worse than go to Heckscher & co in Camden Town for a tuning lever to fit your pins. They are usually very helpfull.

On balance I would prefer open forums, but allowing the general public to see what some Tuner/Technicians get up to in this trade, perhaps they should be closed. In the last few weeks we have seen the following being advocated. Ear wax & sweat. Home made wrest plank restorer applied from a genui...

Electronic tuning aids on the cheap.
I think the old addage "You get what you pay for" applies here. What you do not get with copies is the set up knowledge or the back up service when something goes wrong or you do not understand how to do this or that ! How many tunings would it take to pay for the real thing ?

Pianos in strange places!
Last week the remains of an old pedal organ were uncovered near the summit of Ben Nevis. Evidentally it should have been a piano but because of the weight the piano only made it about half way up. Both of these feats were carried out in the seventies carried on the back of a Scottish strong man rais...
