Good Advice

We have today bought a lovely Yamaha U1 (4.3 mil ) from a local dealer, Gordon Bell in Aberdeen. The piano is in great condition and we really love it. Many thanks to all (especially Piano Guy and Barry) for much advice over the past few months as we struggled to decided what to buy and where to buy...

Reid Sohn Pianos

A local piano tuner recommends Reid Sohn Pianos taller ones from 118cm or so.
He believes they are a good piano for someone wanting to buy new on a budget of around 2K or so.

He also recommends the Yamaha B1
Any thoughts ?

Depends entirely on the U1 in question What used U1 for £2500 would you buy before a new K3 ? Our local piano dealer has agreed to source a used U1 4million series for my wife for £2500 which includes 5yr guarantee. She had to talk him down to this price. Our dealer is buying a ...

Firstly, Thank you to both of you for your comments. Given what you say, perhaps it is unlikely that we will be able to afford a good bechstein for £3000. My wife is not keen to buy a Bechstein (because she is cautious and prefers the look of the newer pianos) and she is the piano player. ...

I received this reply from the piano restorer who ells Bechsteins starting from around £3000 . " Your information from the web is interesting but misguided.I have been restoring for 28 years and if a piano is well restored the life will be another 50 to 60 years. We always replace the...

Modern versus old Piano

Hello, My wife and I are looking for a piano. My wife is pretty much decided on either a new Kawai K3 (she's been offered a good deal £3200 new ) or a used U1 (Hopefully £2500!). I notice that it is possible to buy a reconditioned Bechstein for around £3600. There is on...

Please explain the grey import versus non import U1s & how to distinquish between them. Please explain which is preferred and why. 10 yr old U1s sold privately on this site fetch about the same price as 10-20 20-30yr old U1s sold by retailers on this site. Are 10yr old U1 pianos preferabable to ...

Kawai Vs. Yamaha

I have now narrowed my choice of piano to between a used Yamaha U1 (probably 80's)or a new Kawai K3. Which do you think is best?

Can you help ? (Advise on buying a piano)

Hi, I want to buy a piano for my family. My wife can play a little and she is quite a good singer. I don't play at all and am not very musical. We have two young boys(7 and 4) and we would like them to hear the piano at home so that they will hopefully come to like it and take and interest in it. We...

Yes forget the Bentley, Barratt and Robinson, Should ÂŁ1000 be enough to buy a suitable piano ? Ł2500 is more like it Really? We can't afford to spend this much. ...

Re: Advice on buying a used piano

Thank you for replying to my original message asking for advise on buying a used piano. I have a couple of further questions which I hope you can answer. I think it is called a celeste pedal, a pedal for quiet practice. Is this worth having and if so I suppose there are only certain piano models tha...

We have about Ł1000 max to spend on a used piano, but there are so many makes that we do not know which...
