Hello! Woodworm treatment is my business, but mainly in roofs, seldom pianos. If it is old woodworm, there is nothing to worry about provided no important parts have been weakened (yes, get a technician's advice). If there is evidence of frass (dust) which has recently emerged from the holes, then t...

Thanks for your reply Bill. I managed to look inside the piano when it was being tuned and found the number 1382-Z stamped in a few places. This didn't seem to be the serial number either, but I made an enquiry with Steinway & Sons and received this helpful reply from Hartwig Kalb: According to ...

Steinway D history

Hi all.

A local concert venue has a nice old Steinway D and I am trying to investigate its history.
It has an unusual serial number - K263.
I think the piano may be from the 1920s.
Could this have been a Steinway hire piano?
Any thoughts?

Chopin Nocturne

Hi Georges.

Very nice Nocturne. One of my favourites. I look forward to hearing the whole thing soon.

Keep up the good work.

Martin.

Hi Gill

You got the Morris part right but I am not sure about the Minor label.

Bluthner

In my experience, it is quite normal to take someone along for a second opinion and if the dealer hasn't got anything to hide, he shouldn't object to an expert looking at it. Ask him. If he objects, there could be something wrong. If he agrees and your expert likes it, then he has made a sale. You r...

Bluthner

Hi! My first decent grand was a Bluthner the same age and it lasted me for many happy years. OK, I had to get the action completely renovated and the soundboard repaired (30 years ago and it is still going strong with its new owners) but all pianos require that eventually. My only two complaints wer...

Mozart-Volodos Turkish March Transcription

Great fun! But I rather think it is way beyond this chap's technical comfort level. I think if he wants to promote himself, he should record something less technically challenging.
Have a listen to Volodos playing it himself on Sony Classical SK 62691. Incredible!

Best concert grand.......

If it’s bass you are after, if you can find one, try one of the bigger Bösendorfers, either the 275 or Imperial. They have extra notes below the normal bottom A which you probably won’t use very often, but the usual lower notes have a glorious depth to them. I have had a 275 for 8 years which was 16...

J. Jenkinson square piano

I have recently had the good fortune to acquire a small, simple square piano which I have just discovered has a fascinating, unique history. The piano looks like a copy of a Zumpe, is 4’11” wide, has the simple English action and two hand-stops. It sits on a separate wooden frame. The name written o...

1937 started with 289000

It looks like 1936 to me.
