Re: New Kawai Piano
Thanks all and sorry I have not managed to post pics showing the action on the keys experiencing heavy sustain. I am 99.9% confident they do not have dampners - there are no little felt heads as the hammer comes up if that is what you mean? There are still 5 top notes playing with the heavy sustain ...

Re: New Kawai Piano
Thank you both. I feel I am getting an education every time I post here! I feel reassured but still just a little uneasy about the sustained ringing on the top notes. I had not appreciated that they were undamped and I guess this must mean they have to ring on but it just seems to go on for so long,...

New Kawai Piano
Hello all. After posting last month about looking for a 2nd hand piano for about £500, I started looking in piano showrooms and did an about turn and decided to buy new - oh and increase the budget massively! After trying a considerable number of pianos, I plumped for a Kawai K3 which arrived earlie...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
Hello again. Just thought those who advised may be interested to know that I made my first foray into a piano shop today and spent the afternoon trying out various uprights. It was probably the best afternoon I have had for a long time :D. There was just the owner there and he was incredibly helpful...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
Thanks all again! Decision made. I now know what I will be doing over the Christmas holidays. I had not quite appreciated how much a roll of the dice was involved in 2nd hand purchases but I feel much better informed now and will steer clear of alleged internet "bargains". Incidentally, th...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
I wish I could answer that! I have been looking inside my current piano on and off over the years to try to find some identification markings and can't find a thing. I am not sure if I am looking in the wrong place but there just does not seem to be anything. I have actually just had a response from...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
thanks for your reply. It is interesting to hear your experience of choosing a piano. I think i have always been a bit put off piano showrooms for fear of being a bit intimidated and having others listen to me play whilst trying pianos. It sounds though that is the sensible place to start so i will ...

Re: Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
Thank you both for your replies - incredibly helpful. I have asked for more information (serial number etc) and pictures re. the Bluthner so will post again when I have something substantive to pick your brains on (or anything else I might see in the meantime). £2,500 is way over the budget I had in...

Buying a 2nd Hand Piano
Second attempt! First post went AWOL. I am looking for some general advice on buying a 2nd hand piano. I realise this area is a minefield and general advice appears to be don't bother but I do not think our budget will stretch to a new piano. This is a second piano for me. My first was bought by my ...
