thank you for explaining the term - staining - it definetly is veneer- How does one know if the lid of the grand piano is solid and not veneered?

piano veneer: which year ?
i am sure my piano it not mahogony veneer. It is an antique. When did this staining to look like mahogony start...is this not a modern technique?...

thanks you Colin. You have helped me tremendously. I do not want to do any damage, so I think I will look for an expert to come and have a look. The piano lid is extremely heavy. I really can't understand how people cannot look after such a beautiful work of art..surely when moving one would expect ...

my piano tuner has looked all over the piano, and thinks this may be the serial no which is in the left corner, on the sound board. only 4 digits: 8925 I did send a photo in before, George Rogers Boudouier...the no 287 is above this no and features all over the piano...which year...do any others hav...

repairs to wood-work of b grand piano - mahogony (1895-1910_
My piano tuner has taken the keyboard away for repairs...I would like to take the time out to try repair the odd scratches....any advice please?...have been told it is mahogony wood... (i.e what to use..some wood came off the front..could be oak underneathe. .do I buy some wood to overlay and stain....

many thanks for everyone's informative posts...To Withingdale...in what way was George Roger's pianos transformed after he started making piano's for Bechstein..surely Rogers must have had a good reputation already for Bechstein to use him...he was trained by "collard and collard" ..please...

how to.... grand piano george rogers
I would like to look under the keys of the Grand George Rogers Piano..picture posted...The piano movers did it for me when they moved the piano..and the treble c worked and has stopped working..how do I get all the keys out?...it won't strike the string.

many thanks for your reply. The design is of interest to me ...broadway and Bechstein piano s have this type of design.. i.e. with the bridge....who was copying who?

many thanks for posting this. I was wondering seeing as George Rogers made pianos on behalf of Bechstein...quite a few of the Bechstein piano s look very similar....could my piano have been a sample...or did Beorge Rogers make one for himself and put his name on it?
