Kreshakara, re “…hyper-cautious consumer…” in your original post, I think I understand. However, don’t spend too long on the analysis. Repeating wise words, ‘get out there and try them!’ I’ve spent so long time refining a shortlist of uprights, hoping it would make selection easier and to prevent bu...

Thanks Piano Guy and Chris. The U1 (Jap) and Kemble K121CL seem good bets, and I will definitely keep an open mind when the time comes for some side by side comparisons – no point over spending! At this stage all comments are much appreciated. I wonder if any buyers have played differing instruments...

Barry, thanks, your comments provide much needed guidence! Does regulation normally take place at the customers home? I shall now have a 'surf' to better understand what regulation consists of, and how the benefits might be felt when playing. Has anyone on the forum had their 'well used' piano regul...

Dear Doctor, Can my ailments be fixed?, Yours, Tired Challen

It’s time that my well used 1930’s baby Challen receives a tune. Fortunately I’ve identified the tuner / technician who tunes the pianos at the local classical concert venue on the Suffolk coast. I hope he will visit soon. A couple of quick questions: 1) When played softly and whilst held, one of th...

Identity of music for BBC Radio 4 drama 'Miss Mapp'?

Hello,

Is there a forum member who recognises the piano music used by the BBC Radio 4 drama 'Miss Mapp'?

The ten-part drama is currently broadcast each weekday during this and next week at 1045am, and repeated 745pm.

Regards, Yetty.

Gill Steve and PianoGuy, thank you for sharing your words of wisdom. Your comments were appreciated and helped me cope with the frustration. The tuner in question did eventually visit and made the piano much more consistant to play and sound so much better (and for a rather reasonable fee!). For me,...

Tuner : Better the devil you know?

I would be grateful of advice, especially from within the trade. The tuner / technician I’ve used a couple times for just over a year seems technically very competent and importantly able to find and fix the mechanical niggles. However, making contact, getting commitment to make home visits, is real...
