Re: Career Advice
well thanks again for the responses, guys. I appreciate the honesty especially. I think I shall have to continue to restore pianos in my abject way for many many years to grow experience, and I'm sure your advice on the forum will continue to sustain me. I shall book a tuner, I think, for some advic...

What's the story with Zender
My pi-ah-no is a Zender, but I can find precious little about who the company is/was, when it was manufacturing, what country they were based in etc.
If anyone knows any trivia about them it would be interesting to know.
thanks a lot

Re: Career Advice
Hi guys thanks a lot for the responses. Barry: do you have any more information about this course in Hereford? Sounds perfik. Bob: I'm in Norfolk - not exactly a hotbed of vocational education!! I like the suggestion of paying a tuner by the hour to watch over my tuning. I guess it all depends on th...

Career Advice
Hello My name is Ben and I'm 24 - I wondered if I could ask the opinion of the professionals on this forum. After much deliberation I've decided I want to become a piano tuner/restorer, however I'm 24; married and with a mortgage, so going to going away to study full time is out of the question. I'v...

Polished black finish
Howdy What's the deal with getting a shiny black finish? I've tried a lot of things on scrap pieces of oak, but not sure what the secret is... Is it something that's possible to acheive from home? Can aerosol sprays acheive a propper *ting* finish?? Can anyone recommend a good book or site or someth...

Wet rot in key?
Hi there I have a 1960's Zender upright piano that I'm currently restoring... I've only had it a few months but now it's getting colder one of my keys is sticking on the pin on the front rail... on closer inspection it seems like some liquid has been spilt on the keys at some point in time and cause...
