Re: Help an old piano
Piano would be better not to be repaired as in most cases water/flood damage is irrepairable, check house insurance to see if covered most policies are "new for old" or "like for like"the cost outweighs any point, better using insurance money to buy another instrument.

Buzzes can be hard to trace, would have your piano tuner check soft fall mechanism behind fallboard and tighten screws, had a couple and traced the noise to that part of the piano.

Why buy a new piano when a second hand piano is much better ...value...better made. Could even be a proper British piano ! Agree with most of the posters comments, but do find Yamaha P121 very bright in tone even after full prepp and they have a tendacy after year or two to regain brightness.Alway have to overtone them and "hard tune"before delivery so as they stay in tune.Regards used Yamaha U1 Barrie answered...

There is no comparision the Yamaha is far better piano than the Petrof in all aspects of build quality, durability, action response etc.If 13k is the budget worth looking at Schimmel, and Grotrian-Steinweg,these are the pianos in the same range as an SU7 not Petrof, hope thats of some help.

Better with a Knight which has had domestic use, ones from the fifties to 1983,after which Bentley took over and quality was never the same, and marked the end of an era in British piano making.

Yamaha and Kemble very similar in tone unless properly prepped, and model mentioned not in same league as a new Japanese U3 or U1.The Kawai K2 and K3 are softer more mellow in character and not as expensive as the previous brands and much better than the older used Kawais, its pays to shop around deal...

Its not the Yamaha for the players its the Kawai 90% of the time at this level of spend, when you go to Yamaha c-series amd Kawai rx-series very much down to the pianist preference, but at entry level the Kawai is superior in all aspects of tone, playability and tuning stability and action performance.

People associate brands with quality, and the piano trade is no exception people aspire to buy Steinways,Yamahas,Kawais, etc because they are proven products of quality and as well as dealers warranties they offer manufacturers warranties and excellent techs who back up what they sell, its not all bad.
