Re: Finding new pieces to learn
Clare de lune is a beautiful piece. As for finding pieces other pieces, are you after a similar style or for a similar standard, My immediate thought are to go for Schubert's Moments Musiceaux, Schumann's Waldscenen or Beethoven Rondos and Bagatelles. If you want to go for a bit of a challeng...

Re: What sort of Grade do you think this piece is...?
I'm inclined to agree with markymark that it is heading towards Grade 5. For me, it is the left hand part which is the test of technique at Grade 4/5. In comparing it with examination pieces it is noticable the lack of phrasing and articulation that is usually demanded in examination pieces, so is i...

Re: Piano Scales Book
In my copy of the ABRSM Manual it has it all, although they only show two octaves.
At Grade 5 the scales are played to three octaves, so I play them in triplets.
Is it still best practice to group the notes into groups of four, whether you are playing two or four octaves?

Re: Classical piano music for left hand only
Many thanks to Moonlight and emmac. The Scriabin is quite something. I'm not so sure how to play some of the hand spreads so a bit of practice required. For the contemporary works, it is good to know that there are composers creating this kind of music. Does anyone have an opinion about left hand pi...

Classical piano music for left hand only
Are there any teachers out there who have an opinion about piano music for the left hand only? I have a few pieces that I play by Godowsky and Brahms. Left hand pieces stretch piano technique for the left hand and the sound produced is quite distinctive. If you play it using both hands it doesn't so...

Re: 7 Year old that wont practise but still wants lessons!
Does she ever play for any one? Has she got other friends that also play and she can get together with them? Is it because the pieces she is working on are too easy? If she started in September she must have a few pieces under her belt, does she have any favourites? Have a go at playing some games w...

Re: Dotted minim - Sample to Compound!
Just to add to markymark. Simple and compound time are called different names because they are different. In 3/8 time there are three quaver beats. In 6/8 time there are 6 quaver beats, or more often than not you count two beats, each worth a dotted crotchet. In 9/8 time there are 9 quaver beats or ...

Re: Piano teaching books for beginners to grade 1
I don't think I've come across "The Joy of First Year Piano" or the "The European Piano Method". Are these suitable for a particular age group?

Piano teaching books for beginners to grade 1
What books do teachers use for beginners to get towards grade 1? I've been using Piano Time 1 & 2 and Me and my piano books 1 & 2, and then think that I ought to find some other books. I've tried Classics to Modern, ABRSM Grade 1 studies and a few others. It does depend on age and interests ...
