I was looking for a piano in this price range recently... I don't know the T121, so can't comment. I liked the 2nd hand Yamaha U1s, but they varied quite a bit.. sorry to complicate your choice, but you might find that it's not just a simple choice between the 2 models... it might be a matter of loo...

Hi.. this was the price range I was looking in. when I was trying out these pianos, I thought the Cambridge had quite a good bass.. I also liked the upper treble, but wasn't keen on the bit in between... I liked the Cambridge better than the KX10 which I thought was a bit muddy. I thought the K15E (...

Can't help with exercises, but as for the flat hand problem... When my piano teacher was trying to explain hand position to children, she got them to cup their hand around their knee (...their own knee.. don't want to get you arrested here....) and then transfer hand, in same position, to the keyboa...

Right, so you think it's the individual piano, and not the way I'm playing it? I just wondered if that sort of piano was only designed to be played quite hard and loud with lots of weight, rather than played gently. But you reckon I ought to be able to get a decent amount of sound from the bass with...

Thanks for your reply Barrie.. Yes, the technician will come out to tune etc in situ, but the person in the shop (who seemed very knowledgeable) seemed to think it was as it should be.. I've tried Yamaha U1 and U2, and didn't find them heavy... don't think I've tried a U3. Would you expect a Schimme...

Schimmell too difficult for amateur?
I've just signed the cheque on a second-hand Schimmell Studio, for a very reasonable price, but now the euphoria has died down I'm wondering if I will actually be able to play it! I'm about Grade 7 (unlikely to get much about Grade 8 in future) and play fairly gently. When I played it in the shop I ...

Thanks; that makes sense to me... But... someone has just advised me not to go for this type of piano (i.e. the Indonesian, or was it Korean Kawai)... he said they may sound nice when new but the sound becomes very harsh as the felts compress quickly because of whatever they are impregnated with, an...

Very out of tune after 6 months?
How fast should a piano (kept in normal conditions, not very near radiator as far as I could see) go out of tune? I looked at a couple of pianos (small modern-ish uprights, one of medium one of high quality) last tuned 6 months ago and they were very out of tune, though one was otherwise in extremel...

I was at a piano club today (recommended if you are in London area!) and met someone who was a very good amateur pianist (playing Bach Preludes and Fugues) and surprised to discover all she has at home is a fairly basic Clavinova, which she's reasonably happy with as a practice piano. However, she a...

Bright pianos or just voicing?
Are some pianos intrinsically brighter than others, or is it just a matter of voicing? I looked at a Kawai K15E (a fairly basic Kawai) and it didn't seem particularly bright to me, but I'm told they are a bright piano... will it turn very bright faster than some other brand of piano?? And if so, is ...

Thanks Barrie. The sticking notes I noticed were in the upper part of the piano (approx 2 octaves above middle C)... though I noticed some lower notes which didn't return as quickly as they should when played repeatedly... I assumed this was a limitation of a cheap action? Actually, can I ask you an...

Actually.. I do have a further question... the piano is actually 2 years old (and I've seen the same problem on another piano of similar age...)... so maybe there is some intermittent sticking problem?? And if so, do I have to call out a piano tuner every time it happens at home, or will it just un-...

sticking notes on chinese piano
I'm thinking of buying a Weber, a fairly cheap Chinese piano with a nice sound. I noticed a couple of the notes were sticking... they can fix this in the shop, but ... is it something which is likely to happen a lot once I've bought it? I know notes are more likely to stick on cheaper-made pianos.. ...

Are big pianos louder?
If I buy a big upright, will it be louder in my flat than a small upright, when played in the same way?
(I know I can get a better fff from a big upright if I want to... but what I need to know is... will it sound too lound all the time... I live in a flat so don't want a piano which is too loud....)

Will digital piano harm my technique
I learned to play on an acoustic piano, haven't played much at all for the last 5 years and am now perhaps Grade 7 ish. As I can't work out what piano to buy, I'm considering using a basic cheap Clavinova for the next couple of years or so.
But.. will the difference in action etc damage my technique?

I am renting a Clavinova 110 (a fairly basic Clavinova) at the moment. It's not bad.. sometimes I like the sound because it is quite mellow, and sometimes I hate it because it's a bit synthetic - basically, it is a recording of a good piano.... The bass sounds good. As your previous reply says, the ...

Will I get used to a heavier touch?
I am thinking of buying a piano (Petrof 116), which has a slightly heavier touch than many pianos, in the lower part of the keyboard... not sure if I will get used to it, or if it will make my hand ache... any advice?
