trailer music..
hi all it's been a while!! Work getting in the way of too many things.. :-( Anyway, I've got a piece of music stuck in my head and I probably should know it but I don't! It's on the trailer for a bbc show, I think it's about the man who walked the tightrope between the twin towers back in the 70s. I...

Re: So how is your practise going, and what are you learning?
hi all :D I'm doing some Grade 1 pieces from previous years: Attwood - Sonatina no 3 in F Beethoven - Air from little Russia as well as scales (bB major, bE major and related minors) but my main focus at the moment is a waltz by E.Doga.. I think (hope!) it's a bit beyond grade 1, but it's just soooo...

Re: Adult Learners: What stage are you at and after how long?
welcome!! I've been learning since last June ish. I'm 38  and we'd just moved into a house that was big enough to have a piano in the sitting room, so I bought one! I could just about pick out middle c then, and had read music at school but not since. Anyway, now I'm having lessons once a week...

I have a new piece to learn..
Hi All I haven't had lessons for a couple of weeks because of the snow, but this week flew through all of my pieces and got a big boost when teacher said I can start a new one!! :D Trouble is, I forgot to ask who it's by  The name at the top is in Cyrillic, and I think is E.Dosa or Doza? But ...

Re: Idle chit-chatterers' corner
Hi Gill yes, you're right - it is/was a pianola :) Luckily it got into the house OK! All I know about it's history is that it used to be in a pub, as a regular piano, before my piano teacher bought it, and now it's here. Interesting to think about all the people that would have either listened to it...

Re: Idle chit-chatterers' corner
Linzy, the Steck was often a pianola; they were built like brick wotsits, because they had to withstand a battering from the pianola mechanism. Is yours an ex-pianola? Hi Gill yes, I think so - but I haven't had the lid off yet to have a proper look. It's got a very different sound my old piano, bu...

It's not as pretty as my original one, but looks aren't everything! My first lesson of the year is tomorrow morning.. so we'll see if my teacher notices any improvement. hello all It's been ages!! Life has a nasty habit of whizzing by, and before you know it, it's been a month or so since I did any posting  Went round to Dave (Brum's) house for a yummy lunch - Teresa cooks a great roast - and he played a few bits and bobs for me. Repair or get a new one??
hi all am after some advice please. My piano was an ebay bargain. I have no idea of it's age, or manufacturer as the case was french polished and any name plate has long gone. I'm an adult beginner, so don't know huge amounts about piano's but my tuner has told me its a 3/4 overstrung. I think it ha...

Elaine, hope you don't mind but I've a quick question for the experts about a piece of music. It's by a composer whose name begins with L, fairly modern ie 20th century! For the life of me I can't remember the name but think it's got lots of vowels in it - something like Linauer. The piece is a real...

isn't the first time you have a bash at any new piece 'sight reading'?? I'm not sure I've been taught sight reading - or at least, if I have been, then it's been a sort of unconcious proces, part of getting to the nuts and bolts of the piece. Before I had lessons, I'd look at the score, make mental ...
