Moderator: Subject Moved from History

I know little to none about pianos, but I acquired (for free)a very old Chickering. The sound board is cracked. The seller told me that is the way it is supposed to be. Of course that sounds odd...wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

I have looked everywhere for the serial number on an old Chickering piano. Does anyone have any ideas where it might be?
