just to update you all - the deed is done and all my pupils now know I'm no longer teaching. Many of them are staying in touch as friends and I have now found new teachers for all of them. I'm still going through the mourning process and nearly choked on the words when I turned away a new Grade 4 pu...

Re: maternity leave advice please? :)
Hi Speccyboo. Hope all's going well for you. If you haven't already solved your dilemma regarding what to do with your pupils, perhaps I could tell you how I went about it when I had my son. The timing of your little arrival coincides nicely with Christmas and all the distractions which that involve...

Thanks, Mark. You've confirmed my own thoughts regarding the impersonal nature of a general email to everybody. I was considering going to see the parents of the pupils I'm most concerned about so that they can tell their children at an appropriate time, but time is so limited from my point of view ...

HELP!!
Good evening all! I so apologise for my absence this term - it has been ridiculous, even by my standards, but hey, half term and two seconds to stick my head up and say hello. Hope you're all fine and dandy. I have a big problem/dilemma which I could really do with your help on, please. I have to gi...

Re: Changing piano teacer (again)
Hiya You might try http://www.musicteachers.co.uk who list teachers by instrument and location or look at EPTA's website for their teacher members. Obviously you need to look at their relevant qualifications to make sure they have the necessary knowledge but I would take the time to talk to several ...

Hiya Everybody! Well done, Dave, Old Bean! I was certain you'd be fine, albeit nervous, and as Gill says, they do make allowances for nerves. If truth be known, examiners are usually delighted to see "mature" candidates. This must be the only occasion when I'm glad I'm so manically busy tim...

Thanks Joseph. I'm going to keep an open mind and just enjoy the fun of the hunt! I'm still hoping to keep my Bechstein but resigned to the fact it's unlikely to happen so the quest begins.

Re: Overstrung v oblique strung
Hi PG Thank you so much for your advice.I've seen several model IVs for sale and was going to have a look at them. I hadn't realised the connection between Bechstein and Rogers, so thanks for that. I'm not the slightest bit bothered about the name on the front - it's purely the sound and feel of the...

Overstrung v oblique strung
Hi Guys! The wanderer returns! Can I pick your highly respected brains, please? :piano; I'd like your thoughts/professional opinions on oblique strung pianos as opposed to overstrung pianos. I am very reluctantly looking at the possibility of trading my model B Bechstein in for an upright and will b...

Wahoo! Well done, old bean! That's over half a stone in a fortnight, well done. I've found having a three year old who wakes you up at 3 in the morning is another good (though thoroughly unrecommended) way of shifting the pounds - it means you're on the go 24/7! Keep it up.

I believe nearly any expert you ask will tell you the whole issue with yo-yo dieting is the psychology bit of it. Personally, I think naughty food is every bit as addictive as tobacco or alcohol. Getting it off is one thing, keeping it off is quite another

Good luck. I'm sure your teacher wouldn't have entered you she didn't think you were ready. If you're really lucky your examiner will be a trombonist! If that doesn't work, just remember they were once someone's little girl or boy with a snotty nose!

39? Pah! A mere youngster! I'm 48 and going strong!
Party calories don't count if you're at someone else's place - guest calories are nul and void, so I work on the basis if I only eat guest's offerings when they come to a leftovers party, they count as guest calories too! Well, it's a theory, anyway.
