Re: Kaps Grand Piano Action

Hi. This old action uses a rocked system to connect the key to the whippen (no capstan here), so you'll need an special offset screwdriver to regulate their two screws, which at the end control the height of the hammers.

Re: Bechstein grands: frame failure scare?

Hi! I'm very interested in buying a Model C from around 1890, all recently renewed, with an absolutely incredible sound (never heard something this beautiful). It sells for 38000€ (Belgium), which is approximately 30500 pounds. Is that excessive ? Thank you. Antoine This grand is more like model IV...

Re: Replacing hammers in Schimmel 174 grand

Thanks a lot for your explanation.
Lucky I have found the solution this afternoon, directly from Louis-renner web. They have the hammer that I need bored for Schimmel. Mahogany is the molding.
All the best.

Replacing hammers in Schimmel 174 grand

Well, it has 30 years and its original hammers (Renner) need a new good ones. Which them? Ones from the factory (including shanks) are not an option due the budget. The original dimensions are (were, very hard) 78/70mm 11mm wide and, looking for, I have found two similar solutions: ones from Meyne (...

Re: Blüthner grand aliquot modifications

Thanks for all your inputs. I am fully convinced that the octave 4th strings don't vibrate more in this grand... In my tests I discover curiously that the non speaking section of these strings (double larger that the speaking ones -Withdrawing the individual felt-) are able to vibrate for resonance ...

Re: Blüthner grand aliquot modifications

Thanks Barrie. As I wrote I am planning a full rebuild of this grand and it's obvious that the separate aliquot bridge is not working more. With my first option (eliminate this bridge, as the actual Blüthners are) I'll reduce the stiffness of the soundboard. It's better or worst for the killer octav...

Re: Blüthner grand aliquot modifications

Obviously "almost flat" means "slightly crowned", yet... (measure with thread at back of the sounboard). My micrometric unit is the central leg of the three legs unit gauge to measure concretely downbearing at the bridges. Thanks for the info, Colin. Again: I'd like to share expe...

Re: Blüthner grand aliquot modifications

Although the soundboard (at 440) is almost flat I see a good downbearing with my micrometer gauge. The sustain is excellent in all the notes. I know restringing an old grand is an aventure... but my thoughts here are if the original aliquot system was really running (or it was really a real "ma...

Blüthner grand aliquot modifications

Hi. I have a 190 cms Blúthner grand aliquot from 1921 (series VIII), all in original shape (incredibly good shape) except a new Abel Blüthner (soft) hammers. After voicing and full regulation everything (including its Patent action and correcting bedding -no frame glides here-) it begins to sound gr...

STEINBERG

Thanks, great information!! For me it's obvious that the logo has the initials of "Steinberg", and I was also wondering if they were copying Steinway... in all the ways. Because my baby grand has a very similar sound like them: open, powerful and dynamic. Really it has been for me a great ...

Hi. I have an Steinberg baby grand with the same logo. According its action (Ad. Lexow) it was made at 1925. If its posible I'd like to know more about this superb brand. I rebuilt the interior of this piano the last year (I am now finishing the cabinet) and I want to say its a little jewel: plenty ...

Thanks for your answers. Tuning the aliquot hasn't been a problem: first section to higher octave and rest (according to the bridge) the same tone. Of course Aliquot improve subtle the trebles armonics... Just the oposite than the tenors (non-aliquot): this is the area with more lack of power and wo...

Blüthner 1921

Hi all. I just adquired from a german particular seller an Aliquot 190/3 cms (about 6'3") Blüthner grand, from 1921, which it's "famous" Patent action. All in original shape (excellent shape, including strings) except the hammers, which anyone replaced by Abel ones (years ago but in e...
