Re: 7 Tips To Learning How To Play Piano Fast
I had five minutes to entertain myself so came on the forum and have just read this. I am sure you mean well but I disagree about some of your tips. For instance, if I am having a hard time, physically or mentally, an hour of piano practice is the best remedy for me as it completely blocks any extra...

Carpet cleaning moving piano
I am having my carpets professionally cleaned, are there any risks to my upright piano? If there are can I do anything to make sure the piano (3 year old Kemble) does not suffer? Tuning is due in the next couple of weeks so any effect on the tuning can be put right then.

Re: Relaxation therapy
Have you tried some breathing techniques? Your local library should have some books and DVDs on yoga or Alexander technique. You do not have to practice yoga or the Alexander Technique to benefit. These will describe relaxing breathing techniques which you can practice by yourself at home. For this ...

Re: Keys slow to return. Eureka!
Thanks for the tip, Gill. I was slightly embarrassed writing about the bits of string!

Keys slow to return. Eureka!
I admit I am usually happy to just 'lurk' on this site but I must share this with you all as it may help somebody somewhere. Some of you may remember how I bought a Kemble 121 a couple of years ago. I loved it in the showroom, got it home and fell out of love with it. The sound seemed different, esp...

Re: Wearing glasses at the piano
After trying to play with my variable focus lenses and getting a crick in the neck from peering at scores through the bottom of the glasses as well as not always being sure which line some notes were on, I measured the distance between my eyes when seated at the piano, and the score. The optician th...

I had had lessons forty-five years ago and I decided to start playing again last year. I worked on my own for a few months doing a lot of very slow sight-reading, some scales, etc. until I felt I could not progress on my own. I then went to a teacher. The first two or three lessons she did the same ...

Kaps restoration
Yes, I bought the Kaps in the first place because I had seen how highly they were thought of, and a year ago it sounded pretty good to my novice ears. However, I tried several new pianos yesterday morning. I will share my experiences with you in case somebody may find the information useful. I was v...

Kaps restoration
I am off this week-end to look at NEW PIANOS! I feel I must find out what is out there for up to £4000 before I commit such an amount to a renovation. If the Kaps is still my favourite after all, then I will go ahead bearing in mind all your advice.

kaps retoration
Thanks for sharing your experience of restoration. Even though the piano has no obvious problems at the moment, there is a lot of wear in the action, the hammer felts are very thin and I can hear that after a year of playing the sound is getting harsher. My idea was to get the piano overhauled so th...

Kaps restoration
Thanks for all your replies. I did not include a lot of details because I did not want to influence your first reactions. I had thought the change of strings might have something to do with the disappointing sound of some of the pianos I tried . My piano is tuned to A440, my present tuner is doing a...

Kaps restoration
I wrote a very long post about restoring my 100 year old upright Kaps and decided to spare you and just ask you to help with my main worry. If I decide to have the piano restored how do I know I will like what I get back? I had no worries until I decided to visit a few reputable places and hear what...
