Looking for a stage piano
Hi I have a Yamaha U3 acoustic piano, but because the music room is right below the nursery, it's off-limits after 7pm. Which isn't good as I don't get home until 6.45 during the week! So I am looking for a stage piano to supplement it. The most important features are the action (it must be as close...

Silent systems not all they're cracked up to be
Unless you're pushed for space, I would recommend buying a separate digital piano rather than going for a "silent" acoustic. I own a Yamaha U3 silent, which is about 2 years old. The action on it, even when the silent system is disengaged, is heavier than any other Yamaha I've played (anot...

Pushkin, I would highly highly recommend Craig Ewens. He is based in Belsize Park and is an extremely talented pianist. He's a patient teacher, and specialises in teaching adults (like you and I). He has been teaching me for around six months, and my girlfriend for about two months. Here are his det...

Sight-reading in Associated Board exams
As much as I *hate* the sight-reading part of exams, I think it's a vital skill and that it should be examined. Learning the set pieces and playing them from memory is (for me, at least) trivial.
